Fish Consumption Advisory Serving Recommendations

Summary of fish advisories that recommend how often you can safely eat fish caught from water bodies in California based on the level of chemical contaminants. Recommendations are provided as the number of servings per week. There are two sets of guidelines, one for women 18 to 49 years and children 1 to 17 years and another set for women 50 years and older and men 18 years and older. One serving is an 8-ounce fish fillet, or 8-ounces of meat, such as with shucked shellfish or multiple small fish, measured prior to cooking, which is roughly the size and thickness of your hand.
