County text

The county in which the case resided when they were diagnosed and/or where they are currently receiving care; in most cases this will be the county that reported the case.

Year text

Year is derived from the estimated illness onset date. We defined the estimated illness onset date for each case as the date closest to the time when symptoms first appeared. Because date of illness onset may not be recorded, the estimated date of illness onset can range from the first appearance of symptoms to the date the report was made to CDPH.

Values include: years spanning 2001-2022, unless otherwise indicated below. Haemophilus influenzae (invasive), all serotypes: 2019-2022 Hepatitis A: 2011-2022 Hepatitis B, acute: 2011-2022 Hepatitis B, Perinatal: 2019-2022 Hepatitis B, Chronic: 2021-2022 Hepatitis C, acute: 2011-2021 Mumps: 2010-2022 Rubella: 2010-2022 Rubella, Congenital Syndrome: 2019-2022 Varicella Hospitalizations: 2010-2018 Varicella Hospitalization/Death: 2019-2022

Count numeric

The number of occurrences of each disease that meet the surveillance definition and/or inclusion criteria specific to that disease for that County, Year strata. National surveillance case definitions for these conditions can be found at http://wwwn.cdc.gov/nndss/case-definitions.html.

Counted cases include the below resolution statuses: Diphtheria: Confirmed and Probable (2001-2018); Confirmed (2019-Present) Haemophilus influenzae (invasive), all serotypes: Statewide case counts only; Confirmed and Probable (2019-Present) Hepatitis A: Confirmed Hepatitis B, Acute: Confirmed Hepatitis B, Perinatal: Statewide case counts only; Confirmed (2019-Present) Hepatitis B, Chronic: Confirmed (2021-Present) Note: These data do not measure the actual rate of new infections in the population per year (incidence) nor does it represent the prevalence of chronic hepatitis B. A case of chronic hepatitis B infection may result in multiple reports to CDPH, over time. Therefore, cases are attributed to the LHJ in which they resided and the year in which they first met the confirmed chronic hepatitis B case definition. Due to CDPH’s ability to match and deduplicate cases across time and LHJs, case counts provided in local health jurisdiction data summaries and/or California chronic viral hepatitis data summaries will often differ from local public health counts. The extent to which these case counts may differ is influenced by a number of factors, including access to legacy data sources, use of methods to match and deduplicate cases, and methods for counting cases (e.g. definition of first report date). Hepatitis C, Acute: Confirmed (2011-2016), Confirmed and Probable (2017-2021) Invasive Meningococcal Disease: Confirmed and Probable Measles: Confirmed Mumps: Confirmed and Probable Pertussis: Confirmed and Probable Rubella: Confirmed Rubella, Congenital Syndrome: Statewide case counts only; Confirmed and Probable (2019-Present) Tetanus: Probable and Suspect Varicella Hospitalizations: Confirmed and Probable (2010-2018) Varicella Hospitalization/Death: Confirmed and Probable (2019-Present) Values: a number (a positive integer)
