Greater Visibility Into California Government

Data.CA.gov is the best source for all kinds of California government data, organized in ways that make it easy for site visitors to explore information from across the state. And our new website is designed to make it even easier, with simple navigation and top datasets and applications available right from the main page.

We've organized the data into common groupings...
and then further clarified what information is available...breaking down published data types into formats for easy download and use on your own computer.

We've also identified other data sources throughout the state, including raw GIS data for mapping...
and access to databases to generate your own queries

Of course, with more than 400 sources of data and more than 100 million open data records, it can be pretty overwhelming. That's why the revamped search on Data.CA.gov is more powerful than ever.

Simply enter your search term...
and Data.CA.gov quickly returns relevant datasets from across state agencies.

We've further broken down these search results into data types so you can get data raw...
as a spreadsheet...
or even plotted on a map [map tab].

Not everyone has interest or ability to take raw data to interpret, and Data.CA.gov has you covered, with access to popular applications that make it easy to look up and use data, provided in easy-to-understand ways.

To further increase folks' access to data, we're not limiting our applications to just those that are created by state agencies. If you have programming skills, feel free to take data from the site and incorporate it in your tool or application. Or take multiple datasets and mash them up into a website for others to explore. Let us know what you've made--we'd be interested in sharing it with the rest of the world.

And you don't even need to be a programmer to see an application developed. We're always looking for ways to increase the transparency and accountability of California government, and that's why we're asking for your ideas. Let us know what data we're missing, or a mashup that should be created, by submitting your idea through Data.CA.gov. Not feeling creative? Not a problem; you can check out other suggestions and vote on ideas submitted by others.

There's lots to explore and more data and applications being added everyday. Data.CA.gov, moving California forward.
